Overview of the EPITA's French Language Center

French Language Centre

With more than 200 million people who speak French on the five continents, French is the second most widely learned foreign language after English and the ninth most widely spoken language in the world. An ability to speak French and English is an advantage on the international job market.

Even though our International programs are taught in English, EPITA supports international students in learning French and considers French language as a key of success.

Studying in English, in a French environment, is the perfect opportunity to obtain a degree in computer sciences combined with new language skills to boost your career and maximize your experience.

Our courses

EPITA international programs include more than 80 hours of French courses per semester (in both intensive and regular sessions) as well as an unlimited access to an online learning platform.

Based on the CEFR

EPITA’s French courses are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages recommendations (CEFR).

Upon arrival, all students are assessed and placed in the appropriate group level, regardless of their nationality and their specialization. Classes are divided in different groups to suit every level. The group levels are based on the CEFR scale:

  • A1.1 (Survival level),
  • A1 (Beginner level),
  • A2 (Elementary level),
  • B1/B2 (intermediate levels).

In order to ensure that every student will have the opportunity to participate actively, EPITA French classes do not exceed 16 students.
The contents of the courses are adapted to students’ needs: in the class they will learn skills to integrate in their daily life and in the school, to prospect and find an internship and to work efficiently in a French environment.

CEFR's five key skills

EPITA’s communicative and interactional teaching methods are focused on CEFR's five key skills:

  • oral and written comprehension,
  • written production,
  • oral interaction and oral expression.

At the end of their Master and Bachelor programs, students will be registered to an official and internationally recognized French test to state the level reached.

EPITA’s French Language Center is also opened during the academic year and the summer, to students coming from outside of EPITA, willing to improve their level in French in order to integrate a French Graduate School or University or to prepare to a work experience in France in an engineering sector.

Summer school program

During summer, EPITA offers intensive course, from 2 to 8 weeks.

Summer classes are held every morning, from Monday through Friday, with workshops three afternoons per week, for a total of 21 hours weekly.

Prior to your arrival, an initial personalized orientation phase is organized to determine your language level and educational goals. Once you have arrived in Paris, you will be given a placement test to assess your written and oral proficiency in French.
While developing the four key language skills: listening comprehension, reading comprehension, speaking and writing, you will be able to experience French lifestyle with its social phenomena, customs and traditions from an intercultural perspective.
